Life & Times

Life never seems dull around here. Here's the week's highlights in pictures...

Yes, it was me (jo) who broke the back window out of the truck...I guess that load of wood didn't save us much money!!
Having lots of great friends for Kaleb to play with means that Derek & I get a head start on child proofing our house...we'll have it all figured out by the time Kaleb gets mobile (yeah right!!)

We learned that it is difficult to retrieve small cars and tractors from our sound system...thanks to Isaiah's helpful assistance, Derek managed to retrieve them...

This snot-faced, drooly kid is still cute to us...even though he's pretty disgusting (and wet) right now...he has a cold & just got his 2nd tooth this week.

Lots of action...and the week's not even over yet!!

Wow!

My baby is 5 months old today!! It's hard to believe how much he's learned and developed in such a short time...it's also amazing how much we love him after such a short time.

We got teased so much before we had Kaleb about our lives as we knew it coming to an abrupt end...somehow I can't imagine it any other way!

Daddy Diapers

Sorry about 2 videos in a row...

We've hit smelly diaper time with Kaleb & this video is derek's life right now. He's a brave soul - but sometimes needs some moral support (which I'm not great at because i'm usually laughing too hard!!) in case the gagging gets out of hand...enjoy!!

Give Thanks

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
Psalm 107:7-8

A weekend filled with good friends, good family, good food, and great fun...
We have much to be thankful for!!!

Alberta Adventures

Time has really flown here in Alberta...it doesn't feel like we've been here almost 10 days. Derek, however thinks the time has gone very slowly...he's missing his boy (and hopefully his wife too!!)

Here's what we've been up to:
  • Kaleb met his uncle darren for the 1st time (also his great uncle, aunt, and cousin from Edmonton!) - Darren wasn't quite too comfortable with all of the "fluids" that accompany a baby...the first time Kaleb puked, darren went running!
  • Ikea (of course!) and west edmonton mall...spending all of derek's hard earned $$
  • visiting with mom and dad - who have been loving on Kaleb - my favorite quote from the week "you don't have to cry at grandma's house" - she picks him up the instant he makes a squeak...yes, he's spoiled!!

Kaleb's first flight - he's a pro & didn't even cry (hmm...more travelling??)

Visiting with Deidra, Abigail, and Jude in Barrhead

listening to daddy talk on the phone...he still recognizes that voice!!

We miss you and will be home soon!

The Nap Wars

Who would have thought that a 2 month old baby would have more determination than an adult...my brains are fried!!

Lazy Days...

Having a nap on a Sunday afternoon has to be one of my most favorite things in the world...

Unfortunately, naps for me are pretty few and far between, but we still had a great Sunday...

Good food (steak - mmm...) - and we ALMOST got to eat a whole meal together (not quite!), good naps (Derek & Kaleb), Good friends (movie & veg time), & Kaleb staring at his hands (his newest discovery)

Fun With Grandma and Grandpa

Someone told me I wasn't posting enough pictures of Kaleb...
I was trying to restrain myself, but now - look out!!

If it were possible to spoil a child with too much love...we would have one seriously spoiled child on our hands!
Grandma and Grandpa's visits consist of:
  • keeping Kaleb up (or waking him up!) when he's supposed to be sleeping just because he's happy and talking lots
  • holding him constantly,
  • and telling him how perfect and wonderful he is
...and he has 2 sets exactly the same!! We may be in trouble after all!!

Getting "cultured" at Folklorama - hmmmm!

Enjoying the lake

Hanging out with his favorite cousin - we've been spoiled to see lots of Tyler this summer, and Kaleb loves him!!

Fun in the Sun

How do you beat the heat when it's 35 degrees outside (and hotter inside with no ac!)?? Good times and good friends...

Time flies when you're having fun!

Wow! It's hard to believe that a whole month has gone by!! I really hope time starts to slow down a bit...or Kaleb will be 18 before we know it!
  • We've had lots of visitors, which is great - my parents, Derek's brother Doug, my grandma (visiting the one and only great grandchild!), Derek's brother Russ and his family...
  • We took our first "family vacation" last weekend and rented a cabin at clearlake. We saw my aunt and her family there...
  • Kaleb had his first smile and is starting to talk (he's a genius!!) - well maybe not talking, but definate happy sounds & he almost sleeps through the night, so we're getting lots of sleep!
good times!

who

Whoever thought that a Friesen would not fill one of these car seats. Originally when we were buying this thing we thought that we would have to get the one that is for an extra 5 pounds. Boy were we wrong.

More Pictures!!

We set up an account on Flikr for those who are far away (grandma and grandpa!!) - and need to get their Kaleb fix!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/9324748@N06/

A friend told us that once we have kids we'll turn lame (speaking from his own experience!)...I think the transition it's happening - and the weird thing is...I think we're okay with it!!

We also put a link on the side called "our photos"

I don't know about this parent thing!

We're trying to get adjusted to the fact that the baby inside of me is now the person that we're enjoying getting to know...

It's definately been a big adjustment! Derek is findng is especially different, and it's so funny to watch him!

While we were in the hospital he sat up straight from sleeping asking "where's kaleb"? He thought someone had come in and taken him...but no worries...kaleb was fast asleep!

This morning I got out of the shower to see Derek sitting on the edge of our bed watching Kaleb in his bassinet...this is a very cute sight to see except I couldn't stop laughing (actually trying not to laugh because it hurts my insicion!!) - he was sitting there with his shirt on inside out!!

Oh well...we'll figure it out sooner or later (probably later!!)

Where have we been...

It's been so long since we've posted anything here!

I guess we've been busy...Our son Kaleb Derek Friesen was born on Tuesday, May 5th.
I (jo) had a c-section because they kept losing his heart rate (...apparently the cord was around his neck), and needed to act fast. we've been in the hospital for 5 days, so are glad to be home with him finally!!

It's been a crazy week, but we are very thankful that he is here safely, and (of course) think he's pretty great!!

Past the point of no return...

Well, I think we've done it...past the point of no return!! People have been pretty leary to comment on my growing belly up till now. There was still that small possiblity that they could be wrong, and I've just been eating a few too many twinkies!!

Apparently those days are over...Yesterday at work 2 separate delivery guys commented. The one guy said, "well you're either pregnant, or you're hiding a basketball in there!" So I guess that's it...although basketball wouldn't be the word I'd choose yet...

This is a bit scary to me somehow...

Can you believe it...14.5 lbs!! This is a superbaby alright!! Our friend thinks they're genetically engineering the kids in Mexico now to jump over that fancy new wall the US is putting up!!

Here He/She(??) is!

Here's the first look at the newest member of our family!!
I always thought those pictures just looked like a big blob, but you can judge for yourself...
